BoatMenorcaBot

BoatMenorcaBot is the Boat Menorca robot. It visits the public websites of boat companies in Menorca for two things: to find out which booking software each one uses (for example TuriTop or Andronautic) and, where the software is one we can read, to note their boats’ details for the guide’s boat hire comparison.

How it identifies itself

Every request it makes carries this User-Agent:

BoatMenorcaBot/1.0 (+https://boatmenorca.com/bot/)

What it reads

• The home page and, at most, six more public pages on the same domain about bookings, boats, fleet, prices or trips. Also the booking subdomain if the site links to it (for example bookings.yoursite.com).
• For the booking software: it only notes which one appears and on which page.
• For the comparison: it goes through at most 30 public pages of the site and opens each boat’s booking box as any visitor sees it, without picking a date. It keeps only data (boat type, length, capacity, engine, licence, skipper, port, "from" price, deposit, fuel) with the date it was read. It keeps no text or photos: the descriptions on our site are written with our own templates.
• If a page is built with JavaScript, it may open it in a browser, without images, only to see which booking software it loads.

What it never does

• It never books, fills in forms, sends data or presses buttons.
• It never goes into the basket, payment, customer area or any page behind a login.
• It never tries to get past blocks, captchas or anti-bot protection. If it meets one, it notes it and moves on.

How often

• Booking software: once a month, on the 1st, in the early hours.
• Boat details: once a night, in the early hours, only on sites with software we can read.
• At most one request per second to each website. If a page takes more than 20 seconds, it retries at most twice, with a pause in between.
• It follows your robots.txt rules.

How to ask it to stop reading your website

Email us at [email protected] with your website address and we will take it off the list: the robot stops reading it and your boats and company page disappear from the site at the next update. You can also block it yourself in your robots.txt:
