About Boat Menorca

Updated on 28 October 2026

Boat Menorca is a personal project by Alvaro Saiz. It is a guide to Menorca’s coves by boat: which cove suits the day’s wind and how many miles it is from each port. Soon it will also compare boat hire from the island’s companies, using the data they publish on their own websites.

Why

In Menorca, the wind is what matters most when you choose a cove: the same cove can be calm or full of waves depending on where the wind comes from. That information was split between weather sites, which do not talk about coves, and beach guides, which do not look at the wind. We put them together.

Boat Menorca is not an agency: it does not book, take payments or have user accounts. When there is a company behind something, the link goes to its website.

How we work out distances

The 26 coves and 6 ports come from OpenStreetMap. Sea miles are worked out by going round the OpenStreetMap coastline on a 25 metre grid, so they are approximate (expected error up to 8%). Times assume 15 knots.

How we rate each cove

Where the forecast comes from

The wind and wave forecast comes from Open-Meteo, for 7 days and six points at sea around the island. Every morning we save a copy so each page already has it written in, and it updates when you open it. It is for guidance only: the official reference is the AEMET marine forecast.

How we read boat companies’ data

For the comparison, our robot reads boat companies’ public websites: which booking software they use and, later on, their boats and published prices. It never books, never fills in forms and follows robots.txt. It is all explained in BoatMenorcaBot.
